On 1 November Amaury leaves Saint-Malo for the 13th Route du Rhum, bound for Guadeloupe. This is preparation for his bigger ambition: in 2027, solo and non-stop around the world, by way of the three great capes.

The Route du Rhum is a solo transatlantic race. Amaury sails it on a boat built in 1990. Less than a year later he sets off again, non-stop around the world.
He pays for the campaign himself. What it earns is attention, and he hands that to cancer research.

Belgian, 67, from Walloon Brabant, based in Le Havre. One of 118 registered skippers, and one of fourteen in the Vintage Mono class.
A former reserve officer with the para-commandos, Amaury has always loved speed and taking on the elements: on a sailing boat, on skis or on his motorbike. Now he wants to make an old dream real and take on the biggest personal challenge of his life.
Why? Because he believes you are never too old to make dreams real and push your limits.
Built for the 1990 Route du Rhum, Tagaroa is a veteran from an earlier time. She also took part in the 1992 OSTAR and the 2005 Transat Jacques Vabre. For the past ten years or so she lay abandoned in Le Havre.
After a thorough overhaul and upgrade she is given a new life and is ready for a new chapter. Not the fastest, but tough and reliable for the big challenge around the world.
