01Who processes your data

This site is part of the sailing campaign of Amaury de Jamblinne de Meux, who sails the Route du Rhum solo in 2026 and then the Global Solo Challenge.

02What data we process

While you read, we only collect anything if you have said yes to it. If you say yes, Google Analytics counts which pages you open, how long you stay, which site or search engine you arrived from, what kind of device you use and roughly which region you are in. If you say no, or make no choice at all, none of that happens and there is no Google Analytics on this site. Exactly what that means, with the names and lifetimes of the two cookies, is on the cookie page.

There is no advertising pixel and no profiling. Beyond that, data is only processed if you provide it yourself.

If you ask for news along the way

Your email address, and the moment you gave it. Nothing more. Do note how it works: the box in the Follow section stores nothing on this site. It composes a message and opens your own email program, and you send it yourself. What exists afterwards is that one message in Amaury’s mailbox, and no subscriber list on a server.

If you get in touch

Your email address and whatever you put in the message. For now the button opens your own email program, so your message goes straight from you to Amaury without passing through this site.

03Why, and on what basis

We process the visitor statistics on the basis of your consent. In Belgium a measurement cookie may only be placed after that consent has been given, even when the cookie comes from the site itself. That is article 10/2 of the Framework Act of 30 July 2018, together with article 6.1.a of the GDPR. This is why Google Analytics is only loaded after your click, and not before. You can withdraw that consent at any time on the cookie page.

If you ask for news along the way, we process your address on the basis of your consent. You give it by ticking a box yourself, and you can withdraw it at any time. There is no mailing tool today that keeps a subscriber list, and therefore no automatic unsubscribe link either: one message to the address below is enough for your address to go. Should such a list ever exist, that link will be in it and this page will be updated for it.

A message you send yourself is answered on the basis of our legitimate interest in answering questions and, if you write about a partnership, on the basis of steps taken before a contract is entered into.

04How long we keep your data

If you gave your address to receive news along the way, it stays in Amaury’s mailbox until you ask for it to be taken out. After that it is deleted.

The two measurement cookies stay in your browser for 390 days. In Google Analytics itself the measurement data is kept for fourteen months at most. Your choice about measurement is remembered for six months; after that it disappears from your browser and we ask again.

The editing screen behind this site

Amaury updates the texts, the photos and the messages from along the way himself, on a protected screen that only he can reach. That is not about you as a visitor, but the periods belong here all the same. It is cleared out every night:

05Who else sees your data

This site runs on Vercel’s servers. In doing so Vercel sees technical data such as your IP address, as every web server does.

If you accepted measurement, Google sees the data from that measurement. Google does so as a processor, under the Google Ads Data Processing Terms, with Google Ireland Limited as the contracting party. That data is also processed outside Europe, including in the United States. The basis for that is the European Commission adequacy decision on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework of 10 July 2023, which is currently in force, with the European Commission standard contractual clauses as a fallback. Google receives no name and no email address, linking to Google accounts is switched off, and the sharing of the measurement data with other Google products is switched off as well. More about that on the cookie page.

The typefaces on this site sit on our own server and are loaded from there. No request goes to Google any more. Until 12 August 2026 this was different; what happened then is on the cookie page.

The page shows a map from yb.tl with the last reported position of the boat. That map is only loaded once you click it yourself. If you do, that third party sees your IP address, and it has a privacy policy of its own. More about that too on the cookie page.

The suppliers behind this site

Besides the map above, this campaign works with four fixed suppliers, and with no others:

• Vercel. The site and the editing screen run there, and the photos are stored there (Vercel Blob). The editing screen runs in the Paris data centre; the site itself is a fixed page served from Vercel's network.
• Neon. The database with the texts, the photos and the messages from along the way, on a European server.
• Resend. Sends the sign-in message that gets Amaury into his editing screen.
• Anthropic. Amaury writes in French. Anthropic translates those texts into Dutch and English.

Transfer outside Europe

The database and the site sit inside the European Economic Area. Two suppliers are United States companies. With every round of translation Anthropic receives the texts of this site: the sentences on the pages, the messages from along the way and the descriptions of the photos. Resend receives Amaury's own e-mail address, in order to send him the message that gets him into his editing screen.

No visitor data travels with it. What is sent to Anthropic is the text that will then stand publicly on this site.

Both transfers take place under the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, the standard wording the Commission has adopted for this purpose. They form part of the data processing agreement attached to each supplier's terms of service.

Your data is not sold and not shared with advertisers.

06Your rights

You have the right to ask what data about you is processed, to have it corrected, to have it erased, to have the processing restricted, to object, and to receive your data in a readable file. If you have given consent, you can always withdraw it without this affecting what happened before.

Send your request to info@tagaroa.be. You will receive an answer within a month.

07Lodging a complaint

If you are not satisfied with the way your data is handled, you can lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority, which in Dutch is called the Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit.
